Airport shares soar as markets shrug off economic blues - share price wrap
Airport operators around the world had a rare positive day, reflecting broader market sentiment. Airport shares were up virtually across the board, with the exception of Copenhagen Airport (-4.8%), which continues to suffer from concerns about its traffic and financial outlook.
US shares closed higher for a fourth consecutive day on 28-Jan-09 on optimism that US President Barack Obama was moving swiftly to rescue the banking sector. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 200.72 points (+2.46%) to 8,375.45.
European shares also closed higher on 28-Jan-09, as financial stocks surged on improved sentiment and energy shares tracked a rise in crude, while Asian shares closed higher helped by gains on Wall Street and a jump in banking and technology stocks. Overall, equity markets appear to have shrugged off the latest gloomy assessment of the outlook for growth from the IMF.
