ACI: “Industry remains on track for a rebound” – Airport share wrap
Airport share worldwide were mixed yesterday after strong start to 2010. Airports Council International (ACI) reports steady improvements in Nov-2009 traffic, an indication that the industry "remains on track for a rebound".
According to ACI, passenger numbers rose 4.2% year-on-year to 259 million in Nov-2009, while cargo traffic registered double-digit growth at 10.9%. However, according to ACI Director General, Angela Gittens, Nov-2008 "had the biggest traffic losses in that year". Kuala Lumpur traffic surging
In the Asia Pacific region, Malaysia Airports' shares gained 1.5%. Kuala Lumpur International Airport, operated by Malaysia Airports, reported double-digit growth in both passenger numbers and cargo volume in Nov-2009:
- Passenger numbers: 2.7 million, +17.9% year-on-year;
- International: 1.8 million, +22.2%;
- Domestic: 896,324, +10.1%;
- Cargo volume: 54,248 tonnes, +21.5%;
- Aircraft movements:19,195, +7.8%.
Mexican airport traffic still down
Meanwhile, Mexico's Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste's (ASUR) shares (+0.2%) lost ground from the previous trading day of +2.1%, following the release of its Dec-2009 traffic results, which showed continued traffic declines at its airports:
- Passenger numbers: 1.4 million, -4.1% year-on-year;
- Domestic: 612,675, -3.5%;
- International: 832,592, -4.6%.
