A "remarkable decade": Asia Pacific LCCs now account for one in six seats
Asia Pacific low cost carriers (LCCs) accounted for 15.7% of total seats in the region last year, or just under one in every six seats provided by the airline industry. The figure is up from 14.1% in 2008 and just 1.1% in 2001, completing a remarkable decade for the LCC sector in the Asia Pacific region.
Rapid fleet growth by the region’s LCC players over the next two years could see them break through the 20% threshold by the end of 2011.
