Kuala Lumpur's new LCC terminal to open in Mar/Apr 2006

SYDNEY (Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation) - Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) confirmed the new MYR108 million LCC Terminal at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) would open in Mar-06 or Apr-06, with AirAsia the main user occupying 24 of 30 parking bays. The terminal will have capacity for 10 million passengers annually.

Meanwhile, MAHB announced it would finalise a MYR110 million tender for upgrade works to accommodate A380 aircraft at KLIA shortly. The tender process is reportedly due to close on 21-Nov-05, with 17 companies submitting bids to date. The tender involves:

  • Widening taxiways and runway shoulders;
  • Realigning taxiway lights and airfield signs;
  • Construction of additional passenger aerobridges;
  • Upgrade of existing gate lounges.
