Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific Aug passenger traffic up 5.2 pct yr-on-yr

Hong Kong (XFNews-ASIA) - Cathay Pacific Airways said it carried 1.49 mln passengers in August, up 5.2 pct from a year earlier.

The airline's passenger load factor was up by 1.3 percentage points at 83.1 pct, the company said in a statement.

Cargo throughput in August was 94,987 tons, up 0.5 pct year-on-year. The cargo load factor for the month rose by 1.5 percentage points to 65.8 pct.

For the eight months to August, Cathay's passenger traffic rose 9.4 pct to 11.15 mln from a year earlier, with cargo throughput up 8 pct at 765,509 tons.

Cathay Pacific revenue management general manager Ian Shiu said the strong start to the peak season in June and July continued through August, with a high load factor and an expected strong demand in the back end as people took summer holidays.

Cathay Pacific cargo director Ron Mathison said demand out of Hong Kong and China remained high in August.
