HKIA breaks another cargo record three months in a row
HONG KONG (Airport Authority Hong Kong) - For three consecutive months, cargo passing through Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) broke another record to achieve 319,000 tonnes in November, up 7.9% over the same month last year.
Growth of passenger flow and aircraft movements remained healthy in November, increasing by 6.2% to 3.36 million and 12.9% to 22,815 respectively over the same period last year.
The Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA)'s Commercial Director Hans Bakker said: "Stimulated by the Christmas season, cargo throughput in November is expected to be the peak month of the year. To enhance HKIA's position as the world's largest international cargo airport, we plan to build 10 more cargo stands by 2007."
Over a rolling 12-month period, all three traffic figures grew more than 10%. Passenger and cargo throughputs reached 40.5 million and 3.37 million tonnes respectively. The aircraft movements for the past 12 months amounted to 260,690. The impressive figures of air traffic once again confirmed the super hub status of HKIA.
