Growing disconnect between passenger and freight segments
International passenger traffic continued to grow strongly
in February in most markets, according to latest figures from IATA. Total international
passenger traffic (RPKs) rose 6.8% in Feb-07, taking the year-to-date increase
to 6.5%. Capacity (ASKs) in the first two months of the year is up 6.1%, leading
to a slight improvement in passenger load factor to 74%. According to Director
General and CEO, Giovanni Bisignani, passenger demand “continues to exceed
expectations”, while improving load factors over the past two years “are
proof that airlines are more efficiently meeting demand”.
