Construction of new Airport in Nigeria to begin

SYDNEY (Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation) - Government of Akwa Ibom State awarded a USD125 million contract to Dyna Corp for the construction of an international airport in the state.

The project, originally announced in 2001, would be the first privately-managed airport in Nigeria and Phase I is expected for completion by Dec-06. Phase I of the project includes the construction of an MRO facility, a 3,600 m runway, taxiway, air traffic control tower and fire and rescue facilities. Nigeria has four international airports, including Abuja, Lagos, Kano and Port Harcourt airports in the Niger Delta region.
