Chengdu Airport: battling to become Western China’s largest airport hub

China's Sichuan Airport Group, Air China, and Chengdu Municipal Government signed a strategic cooperation agreement on 27-May-09 to accelerate the construction of airport infrastructure at Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport, as it aspires to gain the position as Western China's largest airport hub. The agreement also addressed plans to launch more international services and expedite the construction of an aviation logistics park at Chengdu Airport to increase the airport's capacity to 40 million passengers and 1.0 million tonnes of cargo p/a by 2015.
