Cebu Pacific's 2010 profits surge. PAL concerned with rising fuel costs and rising LCC competition

Premium Analysis

Cebu Pacific has overtaken Philippine Airlines as the largest domestic carrier and is benefiting handsomely from its status as the country's dominant carrier. Cebu Pacific is more profitable than PAL and it is also rapidly catching up to the flag carrier in terms of network and fleet size. While PAL's international network extends further than Cebu Pacific's thanks to its widebody fleet, the LCC is in the process of expanding its reach to the limits of its A320 equipment, with a particular focus on expansion in China, another high potential market.
