Construction work on Brisbane Airport’s new International
Terminal car park is nearing completion, with the final touches now being added
to a facility equipped with the most advanced parking guidance systems.
The AUD35 million five-level car park, with its 1,700 undercover spaces, will be one of the first parking facilities to have real time displays of available car spaces. The system can also nominate the number of bays available by total car park, by floor and then by aisle.
Combined with high level security systems including 100 closed circuit television cameras and intercom buttons on each floor linked back to a central control room, the International Terminal's new car park will set benchmarks in safe and convenient parking.
Commenting on the new facility, Brisbane Airport Corporation's Landside Transport Commercial Manager, Heather Mattes, said the parking facilities at the International Terminal would save people time.
"When the new facility opens later this month, people will be able to drive in and follow the easy to read signs to quickly find their way to the first available car park. Sensors located in each bay will send real time information to a central computer, so that all signs are updated as soon as a car park is taken or vacated. This will be a valuable service all year round, but we believe that it will come into its own during peak holiday seasons," Ms Mattes said.
Ms Mattes said the new car park would also include a licence plate recognition system that was matched to the parking ticket dispensed on arrival, adding another important layer of security for car park users.
"Lighting has also been a priority and while selecting the most energy efficient system available, we can deliver high quality lighting to all areas of the car park, which is ideal for a terminal where people are arriving and departing 24 hours a day," Ms Mattes said.
She said car park users would pay for parking prior to getting into their cars, minimising delays at exit points.
"There will be 11 automatic pay units installed around the terminal and at key entries to the car park that will take both cash and credit cards.
"Brisbane Airport Corporation has invested in the state-of-the-art system as part of its AUD340 million extension of the International Terminal, ensuring all the available facilities make for a more pleasant and convenient experience," Ms Mattes said.
The new car park, which is located just metres from the terminal entry, will open at one minute past midnight on 21-Aug-07, with signage erected around the International Terminal to direct traffic to the new facility.
