Bid for tech & electronic products at Singapore Changi Airport

This October, travellers passing through Singapore Changi Airport can buy their dream digital cameras, personal digital assistants, computer accessories and lots of other latest IT/electronic items at an auction where bids start from as low as S$1 each. The 'S$1 Gadget Bid' is open to those who spend a minimum of S$50 at any retail or Food & Beverage outlet at the airport. Four auctions will be conducted daily and some of the items up for bidding include the Apple iPod Nano, Canon Digital IXUS i5 , Panasonic Lumix FX8 digital camera, O2 Xphone II, Toshiba Qosimo notebook and IT accessories like optical mouse and notebook bags.

This is the first time an auction is organised by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) for the airport's annual 'Digital Connection 2005' fair. Now into the fourth year, the fair also showcases the latest photographic equipment, lifestyle electronics and computer products. Some 14 participating brands are offering newly launched products at attractive prices and with exclusive freebies available only at the airport's IT extravaganza.

"Sales for last year's IT show at Changi Airport surpassed 2003's by more than 70%. We hope that the month-long 'Digital Connection' this year will spur sales further for products in our IT/electronics category. The 'S$1 Gadget Bid' will not only generate a buzz among travellers but also attract them to check out the latest IT and electronic offerings at Changi Airport," says Mr Wong Woon Liong, Director-General of Civil Aviation, CAAS, at the launch of 'Digital Connection 2005' on 7 October 2005.

Mr Wong added, "IT and electronic products offered at Changi Airport are very popular especially among the Australians, Chinese, Europeans and Indians travellers. Our shops are among the first to roll out the latest products, such as current hits like the iPod Nano and Panasonic Lumix FX8. Departing passengers are also attracted to the 5% Goods & Services Tax (GST) savings on their purchases at the airport, and the international warranty for IT products, which assures them of product authenticity, quality and after-sales support."
