Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport late and over budget, as Delta goes international
Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL) may
be the busiest airport in the world, in terms of passenger numbers, but its
multibillion-dollar expansion programme is falling behind. A Hartsfield-Jackson
Development Programme/City of Atlanta Auditor Office audit of the construction
programme at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport recently found
it had exceeded initial cost estimates by more than USD640 million, and concludes
that five of the eight projects are behind schedule. Projects include a fifth
runway (completed in 2006), an international terminal (in design phase) and
a rental car facility (under construction).
