ARINC Offers a New Formula for Airport IT Support

Analysis

Annapolis, Maryland (ARINC) - Responding to a clear industry need for more in-depth support of airport IT systems, ARINC Managed Services (AMS) today announced a multi-level service offering going far beyond the traditional role of the outside maintenance specialist. AMS will offer comprehensive service-level contracts covering the IT services for airports to include integrated systems support, operations, maintenance support, and technical staffing.

AMS will reveal details of its new offering at the 2006 Conference of the American Association of Airport Executives in San Diego. A press conference is planned for 11 a.m., April 24, 2006, in AMS Booth 217.

"Airport IT departments are stretched to the limit supervising and supporting multiple systems-sometimes with separate teams," stated Jim L. Martin, AMS Senior Director. "With the AMS multi-level approach, the solution lies with aligning one dedicated team on-site so airports are able to simplify their business and drive a more cost-effective solution from a single trusted source."

Complex IT systems require ongoing integration, but supervising multiple vendors means multiple service agreements, and widely varying terms, conditions, costs, response times, and quality of service. Administering more than one service agreement is becoming a huge drain on airport IT departments' limited time and resources.

"The proper response to complex systems is integrated support-integrated systems demand integrated maintenance," added Martin.

The AMS comprehensive service program covers all three vital functions-maintenance, operations, and staffing-which determine the success of IT support. In this way the AMS offering differs from other competitors because the AMS model is tied to a single configuration management database which includes asset management, trouble ticketing, pro-active service level and management escalation, plus dynamic trend reporting.

"We have recently won several major airport contracts including Vancouver and DFW with our integrated service offering. This shows a clear acceptance of our comprehensive approach," continued Martin.

By integrating the service and support for multiple IT systems, AMS can help airports eliminate overlapping costs and frequent jurisdictional delays-providing an end-to-end solution for maintenance and operational supervision, plus providing technical and operational personnel staffing as required by the individual airport.

A comprehensive fixed-cost AMS contract with service level guarantees allows airports to plan and budget more accurately. AMS provides highly qualified maintenance support and integration for all vendors' IT systems, whether ARINC technology or not.

"There is a clear need for a fast-moving, tested and proven service organization offering the very highest standards of outsourced IT support and maintenance internationally," continued Martin. "ARINC's years of mission-critical IT work for aviation and for government agencies have equipped AMS with unique assets-knowledge, technical skills, and quality processes-that have a high value to the airports industry."
