Alpha opens new F&B outlets at Sofia Airport and secures Hemus Air contract

Analysis

Alpha Airports Group celebrates this month with the opening

of two new landside catering units, a World News Café and a Deli Sandwich

Bar, at Sofia International Airport. In addition, the company has secured a

new contract win to supply the on board catering for Bulgarian carrier Hemus

Air. Together, these strengthen Alpha’s expansion in Central Europe and

take its investment in Bulgaria to over EUR500,000 in the past two years.

Located in newly built Terminal 2, the outlets bring the high quality of catering and service, for which Alpha is well known, to Sofia Airport. Designed by UK-based Harrison Design, they were constructed using local firms and architects.

The World News Café (120 sqm, with seating for 100 and operating 24 hours) offers passengers the perfect place to browse newspapers and magazines, catch the latest international news on flat-screen plasma-televisions, and to relax and enjoy a selection of coffees, pastries and soft drinks.

The Deli Sandwich Bar (190 sqm, with seating for 140 and operating 24 hours) brings New York deli-style choice and theatre to the airport, with freshly made sandwiches and salads, pastries, coffee and a variety of other soft drinks to be enjoyed in a relaxing, contemporary environment.

Peter Williams, Chief Executive, said: "These are our first retail catering outlets in Bulgaria and are a natural extension from our existing flight catering business in Bulgaria. They capitalise on the growing market in international travellers from Bulgaria and help consolidate our expansion in Central Europe. These new sites offer the exceptional standards of catering and service that Alpha is known for worldwide, and are already a great success with the passengers."

The new flight catering contract to supply Hemus Air on all its flights out of Sofia International Airport comes just after Alpha Flight Services' win to supply the newly created Brussels Airlines with its b.light class buy on board service in Belgium.

Commenting on the new Hemus Air contract, Robert Shepherd, Managing Director, Mainland Europe & USA of Alpha Flight Services, said: "With over 40 flights per week, both domestic and international, the Hemus Air contract win helps consolidate our presence in Central Europe as the onboard catering service supplier of choice for local airlines."
