Hong Kong (XFN-ASIA) - The Airport Authority of Hong Kong said

its net profit for the first half to September rose 14.4 pct year-on-year to

1.14 bln hkd on increased passenger volumes and cargo throughput.

Turnover stood at 4.2 bln hkd, up 10.1 pct year-on-year, as passenger volume grew 7.1 pct to 24.3 mln and cargo throughput increased 5.8 pct to 1.88 mln tons, the authority said in a statement.

Air traffic movements increased 6.0 pct, to 149,030, it added.

Chief executive officer Stanley Hui said the strong and sustained economic growth on the mainland and in Hong Kong generated demand for aviation services.

"After a lackluster first quarter, we saw solid increases in cargo throughput from April to September. And with continued steady growth in passenger volumes, Hong Kong International Airport will soon serve more than 50 million passengers per year," Hui said.
