AirAsia confirms strategic plans

SYDNEY (Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation) - AirAsia CEO, Tony Fernandes, confirmed the following strategic plans and forecasts for the carrier:

  • Passenger numbers: Forecasts 8 million passengers in the 12 months ending 30-Jun-06, up 27%;
  • Fleet: Plans to exercise options for an additional 40 A320s, on top of 60 firm orders;

Network: Currently operates 53 routes and is likely to add another ten to its network over the next year, while focussing also on increasing frequency on existing routes.
