Air India Express & SpiceJet announced plans to launch new services
SYDNEY (Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation) - Air India Express announced plans to replace Air India on the following routes: Delhi-Bahrain: Apr-06; Thiruvananthapuram-Dubai: Three times weekly service replacing current five times weekly service from Oct-05.
SpiceJet announced plans to launch services to Chennai and Kolkata by the end of this year, after it takes delivery of two leased aircraft in Nov-05. SpiceJet also ordered ten B737-800s in Feb-05, with deliveries commencing in Jan-06. SpiceJet is also reportedly in negotiations with Boeing to acquire five B737-900ER aircraft, with an option for five more aircraft.
"Travel demand in India is so strong that everyone needs more planes with jet fuel prices soaring every day. Any chance to help cut costs will be most welcome for airlines and the B737-900ER carries more people," Dinesh Keskar, Boeing Vice-President stated.
