Aer Lingus back in the black in 2010


Aer Lingus has reported its first profit since 2008 but has cautioned that its 2011 profitability could be significantly lower, due to high fuel prices and increased airport charges. The carrier's fourth quarter results were hit by a EUR32.5 million tax settlement. Aer Lingus shares finished trading on Monday 4.3% lower,

      • Fuel: EUR266.2 million, -19.7%;
      • Labour: EUR258.9 million, -17.1%;
    • Operating profit: EUR57.6 million, compared with a loss of EUR81 million in p-c-p;
    • Profit before tax: EUR30.4 million, compared with a loss of EUR154.8 million in p-c-p;
    • Passenger numbers: 9.3 million, -10.0%;
    • Passenger load factor: 76.1%, +1.6 ppt;
    • Average yield per passenger: EUR107.12, +12.0%;
    • Total assets: EUR1806 million, +4.4%;
    • Total liabilities: EUR1006 million, -1.9%;
  • 2011 forecast:
    • Passenger numbers: +5.1%;
    • Capacity (ASKs): +5.9%.
