"CAPA launched 30 years ago with a mission to make a strategic difference in aviation knowledge, delivered with the highest level of intellectual integrity," says Derek Sadubin, CAPA's Managing Director. " This has been our guiding force since 1990, during which time we have grown from humble beginnings with a small team in Sydney covering the Asia Pacific region, to a global team located in key cities around the world with a global remit.

We are proud to have been ahead of the curve in predicting critical defining phenomena and trends. Aviation is truly a fascinating industry. We've seen the many triumphant highs and challenging lows - all of them offering new opportunities along with the challenges. And even now, as we navigate our way through our most difficult period, it's important that we still recognise our milestone and reflect on how far we've come."

Over the course of its 30-year history, CAPA has evolved and developed a broad range of products including daily News Briefs, Analysis Reports, a comprehensive Data Centre, plus a sought-after calendar of high-level industry Summits and Masterclasses. Here is just a snapshot of some of its key milestones:

1990: Launch of Aviation Analyst, a quarterly analytical journal covering Australia and the South Pacific.

1995: Airline and Airport Asia Pacific, a fortnightly industry news and commentary report was launched, again a first in the industry, as Asian aviation began its growth spurt.

2001: CAPA publishes a 250-page compendium of China's aviation, "China Book 2001: Airports, airlines and tourism", describing each of China's airlines, airports and aviation and tourism strategies; it was updated monthly with the China Aviation Monthly newsletter.

2001: Launch of CAPA's first iteration of News Alerts, first named 'Dailies' - a manual process of collating, editing and faxing daily news headlines to Members, which was later digitised in 2008. This formed the basis of the unique and highly successful news and content aggregations system which now produces over 300 News Briefs per day and continually updates 13,250 industry profiles.

2001: CAPA produces numerous major regional and topic reports.

2003: CAPA hosts its first Asia Pacific Low Cost Airline Symposium - a world first and revolutionary event at a time when the viability and success of the LCC model was being seriously questioned within the region. Similar events later covered other world regions.

2007: CAPA expanded its offering of aviation news and analysis with the establishment of monthly airline traffic data. CAPA later expanded its data centre to include schedules, capacity products and company profiles in 2010, a comprehensive Airport Data Suite and Fleet Database in 2013 and extended the Fleet Database to include Interiors in 2020.

2008: Expanded focus from Asia Pacific with the release of global monthly newsletters covering Europe, the Americas and the Middle East. This paved the way for the organisation's rebrand from Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation to CAPA - Centre for Aviation in 2012 to reflect the now-global coverage.

2010: CAPA publishes the first edition of Airline Leader, a strategy journal for airline CEOs. The first edition was titled "Lonely at the Top. Why don't women run airlines?". Over the last decade, CAPA has released 53 editions, with its latest published earlier this month, titled "Aviation returns to the 1930s".

2012: With the success of its first foray into events back in 2003 and the strength of a globally respected brand, CAPA returned to the conferencing business with its Airlines in Transition Summit in Istanbul on 19-20 April 2012. CAPA continues to establish a global event calendar which welcomes the highest calibre of airline CEOs and industry experts each year. This year, CAPA has transformed into a virtual event provider with the release of online Masterclasses (with 5,000 followers) and its first virtual CAPA Australia Pacific Aviation Summit, its largest aviation Summit ever of almost 800 participants, which took place earlier this month.

2013: CAPA hosts its first Corporate Travel Innovation Summit in Sydney. CAPA's continued coverage of the growing corporate travel industry led to the establishment of the Corporate Travel Community (CTC) in 2019, a network dedicated to empowering corporate travel managers.

2019-20: CAPA joins the Aviation Week Network under the Informa umbrella, significantly expanding its intelligence, data and event capabilities and further growing its global footprint. As part of this progression, CAPA's branding is set to evolve with a new look to be released in the coming weeks (see below).

CAPA will continue to unveil exciting innovations as part of this milestone year. To be part of this journey, visit centreforaviation.com or follow CAPA on LinkedIn here.
