Qantas to increase domestic capacity in 2012/2013
Qantas Group announced (04-May-2012) it will increase Australian domestic capacity in 2012/2013 across Qantas, Jetstar and QantasLink networks as it seeks to retain a 65% domestic market share. The airline stated it is focusing on both "core business and leisure routes". Qantas CEO Alan Joyce said "alongside a comprehensive transformation program for Qantas International and the continued growth of Jetstar in Asia, our robust domestic businesses position us strongly for sustainable growth over the long term". Changes include:
- Additional Qantas frequencies during peak times between Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane;
- Reintroduction of Boeing 747 equipment on Sydney-Perth service, increased A330 services on Melbourne-Perth route;
- Jetstar will increase capacity in key leisure markets;
- QantasLink will increase capacity across Queensland, introducing Fokker F100 equipment (operated by Alliance Airlines) on Brisbane-Emerald service from 04-Jun-2012. Frequency will also increase by four times weekly to a total of 45 times weekly;
