Qantas plans to operate daily Tokyo Haneda service from Aug-2015, further details to come

Qantas Airways plans (28-Nov-2014) to operate daily service to Tokyo Haneda Airport from Aug-2015, the only international carrier to operate direct services between the airport and Australia. Schedule and aircraft type information is expected to be provided by the end of 2014, although Qantas noted it is "likely" the additional slots will be used as an opportunity to fly direct to Japan from "more than one capital city in Australia." Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce said: "Together with the international and domestic links already provided by Qantas and Jetstar, the new slots at Haneda and codeshare with Jetstar Japan strengthen Qantas Group's services to what is a key market for us." The service will operate in addition to Qantas' existing seven times weekly Sydney-Tokyo Narita service, although some schedule changes may be made to provide better flexibility to passengers. Qantas said the additional capacity will capitalise on significant growth in the Australia-Japan market, which increased by 44% in the past year. The extra services will be made possible as a result of aircraft utilisation improvements. [more - original PR]
