Norwegian Air Shuttle reportedly plans significant long-haul expansion from its new Madrid base in the medium-term across the Americas, Asia and Africa, once its long-fleet is in place from 2016 (Preferente/Expansion/Reportur, 04-Jun-2014). In North America, the carrier reportedly plans service to New York City, Los Angeles and San Francisco. In Latin America, the carrier reportedly plans to compete with Iberia and Air Europa with possible service to Buenos Aires, Santiago, Natal and Rio de Janeiro. In Africa and Asia, the carrier is reportedly considering unspecified service to Tanzania, South Africa, China, Japan, Thailand and Singapore. Spain is already Norwegian's largest international market, where it currently deploys 17% of its weekly international seat capacity, according to Norwegian's CAPA Profile. The carrier bases 17 aircraft at six Spanish bases.
