Nigeria fines British Airways and Virgin Atlantic over price fixing allegations

Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has fined British Airways and Virgin Atlantic Airways USD135 million and USD100 million respectively after accusing the two carriers of charging more for routes to Nigeria than to neighbouring Ghana (BBC/Punch NG/Reuters/AFP/This Day, 17-Nov-2011). Virgin Atlantic stated it received notification of the fine, however believes it has not breached any law (Dow Jones, 17-Nov-2011). British Airways has not yet commented on the matter. In Oct-2011, Nigeria threatened to reduce British Airways' service between London and Lagos, after the UK Government did not allocate slots to Arik Air at London Heathrow Airport.
