MEGA Maldives Airlines CEO: 'We believe we can expand laterally'

MEGA Maldives Airlines CEO George Weinmann, speaking at the CAPA - Airline Fleet & Finance Summit 2014, explained (26-Mar-2014) the carrier's decision to pursue a joint venture with Nepal's BB Airways, stating BB Airways has a very similar market to MEGA Maldives. He said he believes the JV will be complementary and they can share a common ground in terms of resources. He said the carrier has two more joint ventures discussions under preparation, stating "we believe we can expand laterally." He also said the carrier may be able to expand vertically in the future with closer collaboration with agents and resorts, adding that "having a foot both with the customer and with their end destination and trying to bring them together in a financially more structured way, is something we see as a big opportunity for us down the line."
