Eurowings will start long-haul services to leisure markets, notes interest in Thailand: Lufthansa

Lufthansa head of finance Markus Ott, speaking at CAPA's Airline Fleet & Finance Summit Asia, said (02-Mar-2015) the carrier's new low-cost carrier Eurowings will start long-haul services to leisure markets but noted no firm decision has yet been made. Mr Ott said: "They start with these fights where you have more tourists to warm water regions, that might be the Caribbean, that might be Florida." Mr Ott continued: "Thailand might be one of those destinations where its difficult for the Lufthansa brand to be really profitable but maybe for Eurowings. The same is true maybe for places in India where we don't have much business travellers and that might also be a good place." Mr Ott added: "There's a lot of interesting destinations where they could fly to and I would not limit them to the west only."
