DOTC: NAIA T3 to commence full service operations on 31-Jul-2014

Philippines' Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) transportation secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya confirmed (24-Jul-2014) Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport's (NAIA) terminal three project will be operational on 31-Jul-2014. As previously reported by CAPA, the department awarded Japan's Takenaka Corporation to undertake the T3 project in 1997. The new terminal is expected to ease traffic congestion at the airport's T1 by transferring Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, KLM and Delta Air Lines service operations to the newly developed T3. Mr Abaya stated "[NAIA] will now be able to welcome 3.5 million more passengers with modern facilities every year, and Terminal one will now be considerably decongested to improve passenger convenience". The transportation secretary confirmed Delta Air Lines will commence the phased transfer programme on 01-Aug-2014, followed by KLM later on in the month. Mr Abaya noted Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific and Emirates will relocated their service operations in Sep-2014. [more - original PR]
