About
Cyprus Airways was the national airline of Cyprus that was based at Larnaca International Airport and Paphos International Airport. The airline's route network covered over 30 destinations across Europe, the Middle East and the Gulf States. The airline was majority owned by the Cypriot government. Cyprus Airways suspended operations and initiated "the procedure for voluntary liquidation" after a ruling by the European Commission that a government restructuring package of more than EUR100 million provided to Cyprus Airways "gave the company an undue advantage over its competitors" and was "in breach of EU state aid rules". It ceased operations on 09-Jan-2015.
Charlie Airlines d/b/a Cyprus Airways commenced operations on 01-Jun-2017. Charlie Airlines Ltd acquired the naming rights for Cyprus Airways in Jul-2016 for a ten year period.
