Wizz Air Ukraine to cease operations on 20-Apr-2015, Wizz Air to open Kiev base

Wizz Air Holdings announced (26-Mar-2015) plans to further restructure its operations in Ukraine, with subsidiary Wizz Air Ukraine to cease operations on 20-Apr-2015 - see Route Changes Table for more information. The carrier's two A320 aircraft will be transferred to Wizz Air, which will operate eight routes to and from Ukraine from 20-Apr-2015 and open a base at Kiev Zhuliany International Airport on 04-Jun-2015 with one A320. Ten routes from Ukraine will be discontinued on 20-Apr-2015. The second A320 will be transferred to the carrier's base at Kosice Airport. Wizz Air Holdings stated: "Following the removal of two aircraft from Ukraine last year, further capacity refinement and restructuring of Wizz Air's operations in Ukraine were needed due to the ongoing instability in Eastern Ukraine, the devaluation and volatility of the local currency and the impact of foreign exchange controls. Wizz Air Hungary's operation will significantly mitigate these impacts and enable Wizz Air to remain one of the major airlines in the Ukrainian market and stand ready for expansion once market circumstances improve." Wizz Air Holdings added: "The restructuring of the Group's Ukrainian operations and the closure of Wizz Air Ukraine will not have a material effect on the Group's trading in the current year and subsequent financial years."
