Volaris celebrates seventh anniversary, transports 27.8m pax since launch in 2006
Volaris celebrated (19-Mar-2013) its seventh anniversary, having transported 27.8 million passengers since its launch on 13-Mar-2006 and gained a 22.1% market share. CEO Enrique Beltranena stated, "We started with two planes at Toluca Airport with a route to Tijuana and today we have 43 aircraft, operating in 40 cities in Mexico and the United States, which undoubtedly represents exponential growth which we celebrate today with pride." The carrier reiterated it launched the largest number of routes in Mexico in 2012 with 18, and highlighted the following individual airport figures:
- Tijuana Airport: 74% market share, pax up 15% year-on-year;
- Guadalajara Airport: 37% market share, up 7% year-on-year, domestic pax up 33%;
- Cancun Airport: 24% market share, pax up 45% year-on-year;
