US scheduled airlines report 16% operating profit growth in 3Q2014

US Bureau of Transportation Statistics (US BTS) reported (15-Dec-2014) US scheduled airlines reported a net profit of USD3.1 billion in 3Q2014, unchanged from 3Q2013. Details include:

  • Operating revenue: USD45,287 million, +4.5% year-on-year;
    • Fares: USD34,316 million, +4.6%;
    • Baggage fees: USD960 million, +9.0%;
    • Reservation change fees: USD759 million, +3.3%;
  • Operating costs: USD39,809 million, +3.1%;
    • Fuel: USD11,411 million, +4.7%;
    • Labour: USD10,482 million, +6.9%;
  • Operating profit: USD5477 million, +15.9%;
