US airlines report 21st month of decline in employee levels
US Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) stated (18-May-2010) US scheduled passenger airline employment levels fell 3.8% year-on-year in Mar-2010 - representing the 21st consecutive monthly decline in full-time equivalent employee (FTE) levels. Details include:
- Full time equivalent employee levels: 377,300, -3.8% year-on-year;
- Network: 256,500, -3.1%;
- LCCs: 63,800, +1.2%;
- Regional: 51,500, -10.1%.
According to the BTS, the top 10 domestic airlines in terms of number of FTEs are as follows:
- Delta Air Lines: 74,700;
- American Airlines: 66,200;
- United Airlines: 43,700;
- Southwest Airlines: 34,600;
- Continental Airlines: 33,200;
- US Airways: 29,500;
- JetBLue: 11,200;
- Alaska Airlines: 9,200;
- American Eagle: 9,000;
