Support from airports 'going to be critical' for basing of Qantas Boeing 787-9 fleet

Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce, speaking at the CAPA Australia Pacific Aviation Summit, said (05-Aug-2016) the carrier infrastructure support from airports "is going to be critical" toward the basing of its incoming Boeing 787-9 fleet. Mr Joyce noted: "There's opportunities to grow from Brisbane to the US… There's potential out of Melbourne, we talked about the aircraft being able to fly from Melbourne to Dallas or add frequency from Melbourne to LA, out of Sydney the aircraft could fly to places like Chicago. So there's options."
