Ryanair to cancel 18 routes at Girona

Ryanair confirmed (16-Feb-2011) it will pull five aircraft out of its Girona base, drop 18 of its 64 routes and reduce capacity on another 17 from the end of Jan-2011. The LCC stated it made the decision after Cataluña's new government refused to honour an agreement on a five-year extension of its Girona operations, which was agreed upon with the previous government. The 18 cancelled routes include Aarhus, Dusseldorf Weeze, Gdansk, Hamburg Lubeck, Ibiza, Lanzarote, Lille, London Gatwick, Madrid, Oslo Torp, Perugia, Plovdiv, Poitiers, Seville, Stockholm Vasteras, Szczecin and Tenerife.

Ryanair: "[We] sincerely regret that the new Government of Catalonia has failed to honour the recent five year extension of our base agreement at Girona Airport despite the fact that it was consulted on its detail by the outgoing Government." Company Statement, 16-Feb-2011. [more]
