Ryanair confirms plans to close Oslo Moss Rygge base, will reduce overall traffic to Norway by 50%
Ryanair announced (01-Jun-2016) the closure of its base at Oslo Moss Rygge Airport from 29-Oct-2016, which includes 16 route cancellations, due to a NOK80 (EUR8.6) environmental tax imposed by Norway's Government effective from 01-Jun-2016. Ryanair estimates 1000 jobs at the facility to be directly impacted from the base closure. Ryanair plans to:
- Reduce its overall traffic by 50% and removal of four aircraft based in Norway, amounting to 900,000 passengers p/a;
- Eight routes transferred from Oslo Rygge to Oslo Sandefjord Airport from 30-Oct-2016;
- Switch its routes from London Stansted Airport and Vilnius International Airport routes to Oslo Airport, where it can "avail of low cost airport agreements". [more - original PR]
