oneworld to become largest alliance at Tokyo Haneda

oneworld stated (19-Oct-2010) it is set to be the leading airline alliance at Asia's newest international hub when Tokyo Haneda International Airport opens to scheduled international flights at the end of this month. oneworld's member airlines there will offer:

  • The airport's most extensive international network, including the only services between Haneda and Europe, with services to London Heathrow and Paris CDG, and New York and San Francisco;
  • More international capacity to and from Tokyo Haneda than any other alliance;
  • The largest domestic schedule at what is also Japan's biggest domestic hub through Japan Airlines;
  • Minimum international-to-domestic connecting times considerably faster than competition at 70 minutes. Minimum connection times from domestic-to-international and from international-to-international will also be reduced to 70 and 50 minutes respectively.

The new international passenger facility to be named Tokyo International Air Terminal (TIAT) will open in two phases. Flights to nearest Asian destinations - currently operated from Haneda as "scheduled charters" - will move to TIAT from 21-Oct-2010 including JAL's twice-daily services to Seoul Gimpo and daily services to Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai Hongqaio. On 31-Oct-2010, JAL will will add a third daily service to Seoul Gimpo and open six new international routes from Haneda, with double dailies to Taipei Songshan and dailies to Bangkok, Honolulu, Paris, San Francisco and Singapore. Also on 31-Oct-1010, Cathay Pacific will launch twice daily services to Hong Kong. Further expansion will continue thereafter as American Airlines and British Airways launch international services from the terminal. [more]
