Melbourne Tullamarine Airport: Sees Asia as strongest performing region in 3QFY2014

Australia's Melbourne Tullamarine Airport CEO Chris Woodruff stated (17-Apr-2014) Asia was the strongest performing region for the quarter ended Mar-2014, which saw international passengers increase 8% year-on-year to 2.0 million. Mr Woodruff said: "Our passenger growth for the third quarter was driven predominantly by our key Asian markets including Singapore, Hong Kong, China and Malaysia. These markets, in particular Singapore, have grown consistently and significantly during the quarter." Traditional markets also showed solid growth with Canadian passport holders growing by 13.5% and the US by 7.7%. Mr Woodruff attributes the growth to "the convenience of curfew-free operations and growing international and domestic network. Melbourne Airport is the gateway for Victoria, providing airlines with greater flexibility in scheduling." Mar-2014 saw international passengers increase 2% to 604,523 and domestic passengers decline 0.6% to 2.0 million, for a total passenger throughput of 2.6 million, down 0.3%. [more - original PR]
