London Gatwick Airport pax up 6%, cargo down 5% in Jul-2013

UK's London Gatwick Airport passenger numbers up 6% - traffic highlights for Jul-2013:

  • Passenger numbers: 3.8 million, +5.5% year-on-year;
    • UK and Channel Islands: 357,800, +2.0%;
    • Ireland: 114,400, -3.5%;
    • European scheduled: 2.2 million, +9.1%;
    • European chartered: 583,500, +0.1%;
    • North Atlantic: 181,600, -10.7%;
    • Other long-haul: 429,800, +9.3%;
  • Cargo volume: 8640 tonnes, -4.8%;

The airport announced (12-Aug-2013) the top there European destinations were Spain, Italy and Greece, complemented by growth on European business routes such as Oslo, Copenhagen and Stockholm, which added more than 40,000 passengers. easyJet transported more than 19,000 passengers on its Moscow route while Aer Lingus transported 18,000 passengers on its Belfast route, offsetting the withdrawal of Flybe's Aberdeen route. Airport CFO Nick Dunn also noted the continued success of some of the airport's newer long-haul carriers such as Air China and Vietnam Airlines. Traffic to China grew 14.7% and to Vietnam grew 26%.
