Jetstar expects revenue to overtake Virgin Blue in 12-24 months

Jetstar CEO, Bruce Buchanan stated he expects the carrier's revenue to overtake Virgin Blue within 12 to 24 months, as a result of plans to expand capacity by almost 25% in the next year, including a 46% increase in capacity at Singapore (The Australian, 21-Aug-09). The carrier stated its expansion plans are aimed at capitalising on growth opportunities after establishing itself in key markets of Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Japan.

Jetstar: "They are the big source markets and we think that's important from a branding perspective. You obliviously need to get the operations cost competitive but the brand establishment in those regions we think gives them a huge competitive advantage as we now flesh out the network. It's really driving the growth routes in all those businesses." Bruce Buchanan, CEO. Source: The Australian, 21-Aug-09.
