Etihad commences Sydney 'green flights'

Abu Dhabi's Department of Transport announced the official launch of "Green Flights" between Abu Dhabi and Sydney (Gulf Today, 18-Jul-2011). The services are operated in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) and Etihad Airways. The first service, which operated on 16-Jul-2011, was the first of a series of environmentally sustainable flights between the UAE and Australia in 2011. Operated under the Indian Ocean Strategic Partnership to Reduce Emissions (INSPIRE) agreement, the service will use technology that could see reductions in fuel use and carbon emissions by all aircraft.
