Dubai pax traffic up 10.4% in Jun-2011

UAE's Dubai International Airport reports passenger traffic up 10.4% - traffic highlights in Jun-2011:

  • Passenger numbers: 4.07 million, +10.4%;
  • Aircraft movements: 26,101, +5.0%;
  • Air cargo: 183,365 tonnes, +3.4%.

In 1HY2011, Dubai International recorded its busiest half year, handling 24.6 million passengers, a 8.9% year-on-year increase. Average monthly throughput was 3.76 million and average daily throughput was 135,700, up from 124,600 a year ago. Aircraft movements increased 6.2% to 159,372 in the period and air cargo were steady at 1.058 million tonnes.

Dubai Airports: "As the numbers clearly suggest, robust passenger traffic growth continues despite high fuel prices and growing economic uncertainty in Europe and the US. This is being driven by the addition of new routes and frequencies, more wide-bodied aircraft as well as by the attractiveness of Dubai as a business and tourist destination and an efficient transit point. Our planned USD7.8 billion expansion of Dubai International is well-timed to accommodate the expected average annual growth of 7.2% over the next ten years." Paul Griffiths, CEO.
