Chilean volcano shows no stabilisation in short term

Chile's national service of geology and mining (Sernageomin) director Enrique Valdivieso stated there are no signs that the eruption of the volcano in the Puyehue-Cordon Caulle is likely to change or stabilise in the short term (Reuters, 15-Jun-2011). Ash contamination in the upper atmosphere could last "for months" and it is difficult to predict how long the ash will affect flights. The eruption and resulting ash cloud have forced flight cancellations in Chile, Uruguay, Brazil, Argentina, New Zealand and Australia.
