Brussels Airport pax down 2%, cargo down 20% in Feb-2013; long-haul traffic driven by Star carriers

Belgium's Brussels Airport passenger numbers down 2% - traffic highlights for Feb-2013:

  • Passenger numbers: 1.2 million, -1.8% year-on-year;
  • Cargo volume: 31,838 tons, -20.2%;

The airport reported (11-Mar-2013) on a per day basis, the average number of passengers increased 1.7% to 41,300. In the long-haul market, the airport reported continued growth driven amongst others by Brussels Airlines and other Star Alliance carriers. In the short-haul segment, growth was driven by LCC and leisure flights. Transfer traffic decreased slightly due to the discontinuation of a few long-haul services at the end of last year.
