Robert Sharp appointed CEO for Tiger Australia

29-Apr-2013 Tiger Airways Holdings Limited (Tiger Airways) today announced the appointment of Rob Sharp as the new CEO for Tiger Airways Australia Pty Limited (Tiger Australia).

Rob is an experienced senior aviation executive, having held a number of executive positions with Qantas Airways over the past 15 years. He brings with him a wealth of commercial expertise including specialist experience in operating in a multi-brand environment, and is backed by strong operational credentials and a track record of innovation. Rob has served in various commercial roles at Qantas Airways over the last eight years, including Strategy and Innovation, and Global Airport Infrastructure and Services.

"I have full confidence in Rob's leadership and capabilities. He knows the ground well, and is full of creative ideas and solutions. With him in the cockpit, we can expect strong, sound business decisions, and positive results at the end of the day," said Koay Peng Yen, Group CEO of Tiger Airways.

Tiger Airways and Virgin Australia Holdings Limited (Virgin Australia) are currently in the process of finalising a proposed joint venture under which Virgin Australia would acquire 60% of the existing shares in Tiger Australia from Tiger Airways. The proposed transaction still remains subject to certain conditions and regulatory approvals, including clearance from the Foreign Investment Review Board.

Virgin Australia CEO Mr John Borghetti commented: "We are delighted with the appointment of Rob as the new CEO of Tiger Australia. Rob's extensive executive management career in aviation and strong leadership skills will be of great value to the airline. I am confident that Rob will build a sustainable low-cost carrier and bring strong competition to the budget segment".

Rob will commence work at Tiger Australia on 1 May 2013.
