The nuance group to operate at Brisbane airport until 2014

Analysis

Zurich (THE NUANCE GROUP) - The Nuance Group and Brisbane Airport Corporation Pty Ltd (BAC) have strengthened their long-term partnership by agreeing terms for an extended option period of seven years as well as a major expansion of the duty free precinct. The new term sees the strong partnership continue until 2014.

The Nuance Group and Brisbane Airport Corporation are pleased to announce the extended option period for the current duty free concession operated by Downtown Duty Free. The concession was acquired by Nuance in 1996 with the acquisition of Allders. In 1997 Nuance and BAC entered a new 10 year concession term. Since then the concession has gone from strength to strength.

The Brisbane International terminal is highly regarded by travellers and is the subject of a major expansion project: the terminal will grow by 60% providing for major international passenger growth already being experienced and it will feature new retail and Food & Beverage configurations on both landside and airside precincts. A major new Duty Free complex will be built as the centrepiece of the development.

Otto Ambagtsheer, General Manager Commercial Services of Brisbane Airport Corporation, said, "We are excited to announce the extension of our relationship with Nuance, which comes as we commence a major $300 million expansion of our International Terminal and gives us the opportunity to create what we believe will be the most modern, customer-focused and dynamic retail experience in any Australian airport. Working closely with Nuance, we are confident that we will deliver a stunning shopping environment. Our teams are very experienced and have worked together very closely at all times; this will be a key factor for our future success. In total there will be 2400 m2 duty free retail space for Nuance."

Christian Strang, CEO, The Nuance Group Australia & New Zealand, said that the announcement was a timely boost to the Nuance team: "Our relationship with Brisbane Airport is rock solid and firmly based on genuine partnership principles. With the certainty of seven more years in Brisbane we will move forward confidently. I am particularly pleased that Brisbane Airport has understood our commitment to Brisbane, Queensland and Australia. The forthcoming redevelopment of the retail precincts will be a wonderful opportunity for Nuance to showcase its new approach and new penetration driving strategies. Our whole team is very energised and ready for the future in Brisbane."
