Rolls-Royce and Hindustan Aeronautics extend links with new Memorandum of Understanding

Analysis

Indianapolis (ROLLS ROYCE) - Rolls-Royce, the world-leading provider of power systems and services, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) to pursue collaboration on engine component design and manufacturing in India.

The MoU builds on this year's celebration of the 50 years of collaboration between Rolls-Royce and HAL in India's aerospace industry. It will allow a broader partnership on more strategic initiatives, including advanced engineering.

The MoU could potentially include a variety of work in India related to the design, manufacture and assembly of components for Rolls-Royce engines across aerospace segments. Rolls-Royce will also open a supply chain office at HAL facilities.

Scott Crislip, President of Helicopters & Small Gas Turbine Engines for Rolls-Royce, said, "This MoU expands the long-standing relationship between two leaders in the aerospace industry. We are proud to be working with Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd., a key partner with a long and vital history - as well as a bright future -- in the aerospace business."

The two companies first came together in 1956 with an engine production licence and since then have combined their skills and technology to achieve many successes, including HAL becoming a member of the Rolls-Royce global supply chain in 2003.

Currently, HAL manufactures under license the Rolls-Royce Adour engine for the Jaguar, a deep penetration strike aircraft of the Indian Air Force. Under another agreement, the Adour 871 will be manufactured by HAL and will power the Hawk Advanced Jet Trainer for India.

The new MoU was signed between Rolls-Royce and HAL during a ceremony that also included a separate MoU signing between HAL and Bell Helicopter Textron.
