LCCs bid for capacity on services to India

Analysis

SYDNEY (Centre for Asia Pacific) - Jetstar Asia and Tiger Airways confirmed plans to bid for available capacity on services from Singapore to Bangalore, Hyderabad and Kolkata. Last month, Singapore and India signed an expanded bilateral air services agreement. Singapore's Air Traffic Rights Committee will distribute the additional capacity among Singapore carriers.

Meanwhile, Air Deccan announced it would commence services from Bangalore and Chennai to Kochi, using ATR72-500 equipment. The launch date will be announced shortly.

"It [Kerala State] has immense potential in terms of tourism which has seen explosive growth in the last decade. Air Deccan's foray into Kerala was a part of its aggressive expansion plans and depending on the demand, it might even deploy an Airbus on the sector", GR Gopinath, Managing Director.
