Ferrovial gains as London Heathrow edges its way to recovery: Airport Share Wrap

Shares in Spain's Ferrovial, investor in the UK's BAA, jumped 3.2% yesterday, upon the release of its airport traffic report for Mar-2010 and the three months ended 31-Mar-2010. London Heathrow is seeing signs of a recovery, with passenger numbers growth of 0.4% year-on-year for the month (despite the impact of British Airways' cabin crew strike) and 1.6% for the quarter. Cargo volume at the airport surged 29.6% in Mar-2010 and 21.8% in the three month period.

Overall a 1.5% year-on-year reduction in BAA passenger traffic in Mar-2010 was led by a 4.2% decline at London Stansted Airport. Stensted also recorded a 4.7% decline in passenger numbers for the three months ended 31-Mar-2010. However, cargo volumes at Stansted increased 23.3% year-on-year in Mar-2010 and 20.5% in the quarter.

    • Passenger Numbers: 8.2 million, -1.5% year-on-year;
    • Cargo volume: 154,813 tonnes, +27.7%;
    • Aircraft movements: 74,098, -6.6%;
