WestJet highlights high Canadian taxes

WestJet VP environment fuel & government affairs Mike McNaney, speaking at CAPA's Americas Aviation Summit, provided (27-Apr-2015) an example of Canada's high taxes. Mr McNaney said WestJet offered a Toronto-Montreal sale fare of USD37 with final cost including taxes just under USD100. At the same time, JetBlue offered a Boston-New York base fare of USD38 with the final price USD52. Taxes make it very challenging to stimulate domestic demand, Mr McNaney said.
