US Homeland Security Secretary states 2012 'premature' to lift LAG ban

US Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano stated it is "premature" for International Civil Aviation Organisation's Secretary General Raymond Benjamin the state the ban on liquids, gels and aerosols (LAGs) on aircraft should be lifted within two years due to the installation of new detection equipment (Daily Mail, 29-Sep-2010). Ms Napolitano stated the technology is not ready and it is too early to say if the ban will be lifted by 2012.
